The Steeping Room located at The Domain offers a fresh, healthy, seasonal menu filled with natural foods including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options inspired by the teas that are served. I recently did a 10 day cleanse, requiring that I stick to a mostly plant-based diet, and since I work in North Austin this was an obvious choice. It’s a great, fun spot to meet up with girlfriends or to take out of town guests when you need a break from shopping.

Sarah’s Mediterranean Grill & Market is located in an unassuming strip mall off Burnet Rd. The food is served on plastic ware, but doesn’t compromise the flavor offered by the fresh, home-style falafel, hummus, shawarma, kebabs, pita wraps, and salads. A great value, excellent quality, and a good spot for families. One of these days I’d like to take advantage of their great grocery selection to prepare a homemade meal.
The vegetarian plate: falafel, hummus, tabouli, house salad, and pita bread. Lentil soup on the side.
Market items according to the website include breads, olives, olive oils, cookies, candy, rice, canned meats, fresh halal meat, frozen meat, coffee, different beans, hookahs, hookah accessories, hookah tobacco, prayer rugs, soap, spices, tahini sauce, yogurt products, and dates.

I recently visited a friend in NYC and was lucky enough to have this little gem-of-a-cafe situated just steps from the apartment. Beautifully done, eco-conscious, amazing baked goods, food, and incredible coffee. According to their website, “O CAFÉ is the first coffee bar in New York to serve coffee brewed from the highest quality hand-selected Brazilian beans.” It was a pleasure to grab a snack and observe the care that goes into every detail of this little place.
Reminiscent of a European bakery.
Quite simply the best kale sandwich I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. So simple: multi-grain bread, olive tapenade, cream cheese spread, and chopped kale.

Contigo, owned by native Texans Ben Edgerton and Andrew Wiseheart is modeled after Contigo Ranch in South Texas. I’d been dying to try this place and after many failed attempts to make it happen I was beyond excited when my friend won the 5 course dinner with wine pairing from Austin Tidbits. The concept is simple, according to the website: “Since we can’t have everyone down to the ranch, we wanted to do our best to bring the ranch to them.” And bring it they did. I opted for the vegetarian option this magical evening my taste buds were left singing.
